For Lance Armstrong, his position in the spotlight during 2013 may pick up right where things left off in 2012. The latter part of 2012 found Armstrong battling the culmination of years of accusations of cheating, and charges of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his storied cycling career. What’s next, or shall we say who’s next in this saga? Oprah!
On Tuesday, Oprah.com’s press room announced that Oprah Winfrey is headed to Armstrong’s home in Austin, Texas for an exclusive interview with the cycling phenom for a “no-holds-barred” interview about the USADA doping scandal, cheating accusations and charges of lying about using performance enhancing drugs.
This is Armstrong’s only interview since the seven-time Tour de France winner was stripped of his titles and dropped from millions of dollars in endorsement deals after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released an extensive report accusing the renowned cyclist of doping throughout his career. Armstrong was given a lifetime ban on competing professionally. Late last year, Armstrong resigned as chairman of the foundation he created, Livestrong, which has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in the fight against cancer.
The special 90-minute episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter will air Thursday, January 17, from 9 to 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. In addition, the interview will be simultaneously streamed LIVE worldwide on Oprah.com.
No doubt this will be a highly anticipated Thursday with millions of viewers tuning in to see what the cycling phenom will reveal to the media mogul.
