With the Thai New Year around the corner (April 13th – 15th) Catelyn Silapachai, Co-Founder of Austin’s The Distillery is excited to share a few styling tips for decorating with the popular Thai textiles.
With strong ties to the culture, Silapachai’s husband is from Bangkok, and his grandfather currently lives in Northern Thailand, Silapachai travels to Thailand frequently and explores unique shopping, food and cultural experiences in the beautiful mountain communities. You can see a few of her travel blog posts here.
The textiles featured on The Distillery and in Catelyn’s style tips are created by the Hmong people living in Thailand and feature their traditional style of embroidery. All textiles are individually hand-sewn.
Silapachai’s Thai Textile Styling Tips:
1. Because the pillows are so bright and intricate we recommend styling them as an accent piece. Try pairing them with a neutral leather couch or modern accent chair. The pillows add a warm, bohemian feel to almost any room.

2. In the bedroom, we love a light linen or cotton bedspread with 1 or 2 hill tribe pillows. Mix with lots of wood, greenery, and light, and keep other competing patterns a minimum. The bed covers look great folded neatly at the foot of a neutral bedspread, or draped over the back of a neutral sofa.
3. The key when using a bold textile is to use them sparingly, in a room with little color, so they really pop.
