This year marks the eighth annual Austin Modern Home Tour, which allows access to private properties that are pioneering Modernist architecture in our city. On Saturday, February 7th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. visit seventeen breathtaking abodes and speak to the architects and builders that conceptualized and brought these visions to life. Founded by GoodLife Realty and produced by Modern Home Tours, LLC, The Austin Modern Home Tour was created to foster progressive, yet responsible design specifically in the Austin area. It highlights and promotes the collaborative exchange between Real Estate Professionals, Architects and Developers in order to further the Modern Movement, which focuses on evolution and improvement. The Tour also provides an opportunity for Austinites to learn about the dwellings that the community is producing and garner ideas for their own homes.
There is a narrative behind every design. Meet Adam Reiser of Shelter Home Building who is developing a new movement of 100% toxic free residences. After discovering a noxious mold in his own house, Reiser along with architect Gordon Wittenberg took green building a step further and constructed a healthy home that truly is a clean sanctuary. Become acquainted with Ingrid Spencer, curator of the Austin Modern Home Tour. Spencer’s 50s ranch-style dwelling had small, closed-in rooms, dark halls, and no direct access to the backyard. With an intention to create elegant proportions, Baldridge Architects knocked down walls, added floor to ceiling glass doors and connected interior and exterior space.
