When I think of places I want to go and escape for a bit, I don’t usually think of downtown Austin. Surprisingly, and above all, most thankfully to InFluential Magazine for drawing my name as the winner of the gift certificate, I was able to kick off my GDO with a most excellent hot stone massage at NAAVA Salon & Spa on 6th Street.
This 75-minute treat was enhanced by the use of fragrant essential oils (I used lavender and orange) that brought much needed relief to my stubbornly sore muscles. An option for prolonged pampering, though you may find it difficult to get off the table later, can be an added a foot or scalp massage for an additional $20. For bone-melting tranquility, cap your massage with Reflexology for $40. After coaxing myself to get up, I was served a very refreshing glass of cucumber water…a very nice touch indeed. I felt such serenity afterwards, I forgot I was in the middle of downtown when I came floating out. Quick note: if the trek downtown doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can also visit their Arboretum location. NAAVA offers a host of salon services for hair and nails and can even step up your beauty needs on your wedding day. All NAAVA salon and spa offerings can be found http://www.naava.com/.
After my blissful hiatus at NAAVA, I trekked down 6th Street to meet my gal pal Nancey for brunch at Italic. After being served a complimentary cocktail of Prosecco and orange liqueur, we studied the menu to see what would tickle our eclectic palate. This was not an easy task given the salacious choices. Their brunch menu features French toast, breakfast risotto, egg sandwiches, and braised lamb hash. Plus other regular items like pizza, salads, and pasta are available. Brunch hours are from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., every Sunday. To see other food offerings and events, visit their website at http://italicaustin.com/.
Not a bad way to spend a GDO or any day for that matter. Food and relaxation, what more could a girl ask for.
