Compelling Conversation with NFL Pro Turned Community Change Agent, Terrell Fletcher

By Mason Kern

If you don’t already know the name Terrell Fletcher, you will…and certainly should! This NFL pro turned no-holds-barred cultural consultant and commentator, leadership expert and community mobilizer is on a mission to give the disenfranchised a “voice” that’s actually heard, and advocate why (and how) everyone in workplaces, homes and sports programs across the U.S. can live a community-centric life—one that’s driven by the kind of transformation and action that makes organizations, schools, homes, streets, cities and towns better to the extent that the impacts can be felt on a national scale.

Terrell doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk. His own calling commenced in April of 2005 when, having realized a dream of his own through which he could utilize innate gifts, he was drafted into the NFL by the San Diego Chargers. There he enjoyed a successful 8-year career with the team. During this period, Fletcher became a vital and extremely active part of the community, serving as the Chairman and Spokesman for Jr. Achievement, volunteering with San Diego County Adoptions and regularly making meals to feed San Diego’s homeless, among other of his charitable and philanthropic endeavors.

Never one to shy away from “tackling’ a challenge and with his NFL “activist athlete” years now behind him, today Terrell remains a man of action—a bold community leader, organizer and compassionate advocate for those in our society who are marginalized and need an “assist” to help their proverbial voices be heard.

To learn more, I connected with Terrell for some of his fresh and unique insights, leadership lessons he learned on the gridiron and how we can all create a legacy through leadership. Listen to my exclusive interview with Terrell here.

Former NFL Pro Anthony Trucks Says ‘Trust Your Hustle’

We often hear about NFL players who have gone bankrupt or are embroiled in controversy and adversity. What we don’t often hear are the extreme obstacles and roadblocks that pro athletes have to overcome for even a chance to play in a pro sport, and then to persevere and maintain success once they’ve left their playing career behind. With that in mind, I was thrilled to connect with Anthony Trucks who played linebacker for the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers. He has a remarkable backstory and has realized post-NFL success thanks to a concept he developed called “Trust Your Hustle.” What does this mean? Find out by listening to my exclusive interview with Trucks here.

Success Insights from Three-Time Super Bowl Champ Bart Oates

By Mason Kern

Bart Oates

Bart Oates

Few NFL veterans have achieved the kind of post-league business success experienced by three-time Super Bowl champion, Bart Oates, who played for both the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers, actually winning Super Bowls with both teams. Bart is one of the exceptional success stories of a pro athlete. Not only did he play as an All-American while attending college at Brigham Young University, he also joined the NFL at the relatively advanced age of 27 where, in addition to winning 3 Super Bowls, he was selected to five Pro Bowls and to the UPI All-NFC team three times during his career. Known to be extremely durable, Bart actually started in 125 consecutive games during his time with the Giants.

But, even beyond all of his athletics accolades, as admirable is the business success Bart continued to realize both before and after leaving the league behind. Among other endeavors, Bart graduated with honors from Seton Hall Law School while still playing in the NFL, which is incredible, and he then went on to become a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, chairman of the New Jersey Hall of Fame, Chapter President of the NFL Alumni Association, and a Board member of the Super Bowl Host Committee. Also impressive is that Bart was named a division senior vice president for an industry leading real estate company, and has done project oversight work with a MedTech orthopedic device company.

With all of this rich business experience behind him, I had no doubt Bart would offer some really great insights and advice for the rest of us. Listen to my insightful 15-minute interview with Bart to hear his thoughts on success, motivation, perseverance and more—access the audio here.

X Games Austin returns for 2nd year at Circuit of the Americas

Written by BA Snyder

After an inaugural year of success finding a new home in Austin, Texas at the Grand Prix track; X Games has returned for their second year. A blend of competition amongst varying disciplines and showcasing a broad range of talents, the brand continues to gain popularity throughout extended demographics. With a growing awareness of X Games Austin, there were serious considerations going into the production of event and operations between partners. In 2015, adjustments have been made to elevate the attendees experience throughout the event weekend. Outside of the athletic competitions, fans of all ages will be able to enjoy interactive brand experience and music entertainment by acclaimed musicians, a consistent trend now set within CoTA event concepts. Ultimately, these additions will amplify the festival’s experience for all of those in attendance.

Super Stage

X Games Austin 2015 introduces the Super Stage; hosting headlining musical performances from a larger concert venue location, Grammy Award-nominated superstar, Nicki Minaj, will perform Friday, while Metallica will take center stage Saturday evening.

Keeping in line with last year’s event, fans will see all other featured performances on the Sound Factory Stage powered by KUTX. The scheduled line up begins at 11:30am Friday and runs through Sunday at 8pm.

A Change of Scenery

Previously, X Games attendees had to truck up near Turn 1 to see BMX Competitions while the rest of Games proceeded closer to the Main Grandstand and inside turns of CoTA. This year, event goers will experience the same broad scope of events but in closer quarters to eliminate long hikes between competitions. More convenient solutions and accommodations will be a large factor in enhancing attendees experience making it more family friendly and appealing to those familiarizing themselves with X Games.

Monster Energy introduces #UnleashedATX

Monster Energy takes over CoTA bringing in their world-class athletes ranging from Tom Schaar, to the unquestionable king of BMX vert Jamie Bestwick. Promotions throughout the event weekend will offer fans a chance to sample and experience the overall Monster Energy brand and what they have named as #UnleashedATX.
